…sitting outside tonight gazing up at an almost cloudless sky, a billion stars twinkling down at me. Off in the distance, a lone biker returns from a night ride and as I sit and listen patiently, I hear him slowly ease into the neighborhood, Idle down his engine and shut off- it’s a good sound when a night rider returns to his home safe and sound.
Above me a very thin cloud array sprays over me like a giant Milky Way and from out of the head of Cignus, a bright shooting star blazes a trail through the sky before dissipating into a gaseous billion particles.
…and I made a wish.

It’s been a day.
First, I rippit’d Mike’s Ribbed Scarf. Seems I’ve temporarily misplaced a skein of Berocco Vintage, and nearing the end of Skein #1, I have decided to just start over and make him a hat.
I’d like to make him a toad, but that is for another blog 😉
Anyway, it’s what he really wants, so there we are.

Think I will watch some Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee on Crackle, that’ll get me in a good mood.
And then pick up an episode or two of Longmire….OMG Siri knew about Longmire?
Longmeier Longmeier Longmeier episode of Longmeier…. Well Far fig Newton I guess Siri has short-term memory loss. ROFL!!!

Fahrvergnügen
That’s been my favorite word since back in my deli days. We had a little German girl named Hilda who worked in our store, she was all of 5’1 a real firecracker! She was the most hilarious person and we got along so well- I always used to crack up when she would get on a rant about something and OMYGAWD, her German roots came out! I called her the little Fahrvergnügen, after the VW commercials of the day. She reminded me of a little VW Bug, always puttering about, “MEE-MEEP!’

Zucchini Parmesan Crisps

1 lb. zucchini or squash (about 2 medium-sized)
1/4 cup shredded parmesan (heaping)
1/4 cup herb seasoned breadcrumbs (heaping)
1 tablespoon olive oil
salt, freshly ground pepper, to taste
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line two baking sheets with foil and spray lightly with vegetable spray.

Slice zucchini or squash into 1/4 inch-thick rounds. Toss rounds with oil, coating well.

In a wide bowl or plate, combine breadcrumbs, parmesan, salt and pepper.

Place rounds in parmesan-breadcrumb mixture, coating both sides of each round, pressing to adhere. The mixture will not completely cover each round, but provides a light coating on each side.

Place rounds in a single layer on baking sheets. Sprinkle any remaining breadcrumb mixture over the rounds.

Bake for about 22 to 27 minutes, until golden brown. (There is no need to flip them during baking — they crisp up on both sides as is.)

Hamburger Pleasure July 6, 2013

On Friday, I had a friend from knitting group offer to take my parakeets, Peeps and Mikee. I didn’t want to give them up, but the prospect of Mike’s liver transplant dictated I consider the risk of infection and health issues, and reluctantly asked for a willing adoptee. Joan responded immediately. She is a bird lady herself, and she and her 2 daughters were ecstatic to take on the Meeps, so I felt somewhat relieved after all.
After we unloaded the cage, stand and all their food, she gifted me a casserole. Since we didn’t have plans for the July 4th, it came as a welcome surprise. And was it delicious, so I asked for the recipe.

Hamburger Pleasure

3 oz. cream cheese
8 oz. sour cream
1 # hamburger
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
16 oz. tomato sauce
12 oz. egg noodles (noodles of choice)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Brown hamburger, drain. Add tomato sauce, sugar and salt. Blend cream cheese and sour cream together. Cook noodles. Put half of noodles in casserole, then spread with half of cheese mix and half tomato sauce. Repeat. Top with shredded Cheddar. Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.

I miss the Meeps tonight. As people in the neighborhood shoot off fireworks, I catch myself wanting to cover their cage, to protect them from the noise. I look over at the space where their cage hung and even though a huge Norfolk Island Pine now occupies the space, there is still an emptiness, sadness that life changes dictate sacrifices like these. I enjoyed them, even when they were at their noisiest.

I’m working on a shawlette pattern, 198 Yds of Heaven. It is a free pattern by Christy Verity published in Verity Knits
Mine is actually going to be a full size shawl using Berroco Vintage™ yarn , 2 skeins at 434.0 yards (396.8m) Colorway: Cerulean. The yarn is nice, soft, does not split and has a beautiful mixture of medium blue intermingled with red fibers to give it an almost bluish-purple cast.
This is the second time I’ve started this shawl, the pattern confused me in the center, with the **’s and [..] repeats. Sort of a brain-teaser, but eventually, I did get it, with only a couple minor mistakes. Easy enough to add to, I would make corrections when I caught them and nobody will be the wiser.

I was considering doing the lace border in Berroco Vintager, Flicker, in the Black and silver colorway. I’m already 2 rows into the lace and thinking maybe is not a good idea, too extravagant. I think I will reserve my adventurous side for something with deliberate and intentional shading and stripping…20130706-092606.jpg
The walking shoes are telling me it’s time to move on, this shawl needs to be completed. Or maybe they are saying, “We need Sole Socks”, the Chicken Soup kind…
