Time to follow the Sand Hill Cranes as they head south of the border, warm tropical breezes, cool, cool waters.

I’m laughing in the face of impending Holiday Epic Fail. I’ve thrown caution to the winter winds, putting my Christmas gift projects aside, and starting a project, for ME! I need a pair of slippers to keep my feeties warm in the office. My usual footware of choice, my old favorite hiking boots, are cumbersome at my desk, my tootsies want softness.

I found a couple patterns I really like, and with some ingenuity and craftiness, I plan to merge them into something fun and easy.
For the top half, I want to crochet this:
Crocodile Stitch Boots (Adult Sizes)
Pattern source: Two Boot Patterns for 8 Dollars eBook
Craft: Crochet

For the bottom, I’m using this patten, because I prefer a a knitted foot:
St Louis Boots – Slippers
Pattern: 142-36 St Louis Boots – Slippers in seed st in Eskimo by DROPS design
Craft: Knitting

I’m using Knit Picks Cadena Wool, Tree Frog colorway.

After I’ve conquered my alter-idea and completed my prototype, I’ll make both, exactly as the patterns calls for, at a later time (TBD), for gifts…maybe even a miniature version 😉

Ohey, starting next week, I’ll be helping out at Studio S Fiber Arts on Mondays, 10-5pm! Come see our latest KAL, the Intertwisted Cowl, and buy some fabulous yummy yarns!!!!!

Mine’s the Lavendar one, that was a fun little mess! 😉

O this is just too funny to not share.
At Mr’s request, I just spent the last 30 minutes attaching a replacement plug to an extension cord he wanted to salvage. I gave it a whirl, for snicks and grins. This is what happens when the blind lead the blind. “Like” and a thumbs up, if you get it 😉

Finally, the bulb comes on when Mr. finds the female connector and announces, “…looks like candy corn…”

At least today, we had a laugh. 😄

Happy Turkey Day from our neck’o the woods to yours!

20121122-191617.jpg
Today was a good day. I had a rather short night, worried about nothing important, as it turns out. But that’s the way I am.
Got ambitious and got the rider mower out, and was mulching leaves out front, halfway done with the far end, when the rider decided to crap out mid-yard. Lifted the hood only to discover the gas tank empty, after DH told me he filled it. I wonder when he last filled it, as the timeline links have been short- circuiting a bit, lately. l filled the tank on the rider, decided to let it sit, and got out the push mower and finished the side yard. The rider started right up, so I finished mulching the front and side. 2 hours later, the mulching done, I went upstairs to start our Turkey Day dinner.

I baked a pumpkin pie the night before.

Sealed and baking for another hour. Added the oyster dressing, and candied yams

A little time to relax, this one’s for the Cook

After a full day, this is why I am thankful.

Hope you all had a beauty-FULL day with family and friends. Cheers!!

This one is for all those hopes and dreams….

Time in a Bottle – Jim Croce

I have come to the realization, there can be no empathy at the bottle of the bottle. I only hope M. lives long enough to watch his beloved Igor live out the rest of his days with us, then I will know if there is any shred of caring left…..

I saw a great recipe for fanned baked potatoes on Chef’s Country, last night.

4 baking potatoes, scrubbed
Shredded cheddar cheese
Herb bread crumbs, crushed
1 T melted butter
Salt, pepper

Pre-heat oven to 325.
Scrub potatoes, and make thin slices, do not slice all the way though. Pre-cook potatoes in microwave on high 9 minutes. Rinse potatoes good to rinse starch away, and to prohibit gluten from forming during baking. Place potatoes on a cookie sheet, fanning slices slightly. Mix bread crumbs and shredded cheddar cheese together; brush melted butter over potatoes. Mound cheese breaking over potatoes, allowing some to fall into slices. Sprinkle a little olive oil over all, and bake 20 minutes to melt cheese.
Serve immediately.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
…as I reflect on Mr’s profound observation today: “we really do take too much for granted, sometimes too late…”, I made a mental checklist of things I don’t take for granted, easy enough.
I will be thankful for another day, and another, and another, as long as the sun lights our days, and the moon lights our nights.
20121111-204938.jpg
And I will always be thankful for the hard work of my folks, and their service to our country.
After chilling for one afternoon, I quickly contemplated and moved on to my next project, another Christmas present for DD’s MIL. Can you guess what they will be?
Not to be a spoiler of surprises, I will refrain from the reveal until I’m closer to done….say, later this week 😉
Igor digresses, at 5:15, it’s too dark too early now.
