So last night, I’m out with Igor around 11:30. I see something weird in the front yard. The moon is almost full and there is this white wispy stuff floating in the yard. Freaked me out at first, I thought I was seeing ghost lights. So, the Big Fearless Ghost Hunter I am, I had to investigate…the house next door, every tree, every bush, lamp post, garage lights, yard art, TP BOMBED! Imagine my surprise~ it’s Homecoming weekend, right? Ha!

Oh, did I mention? She’s the Crossing Guard…

…the cage is cleaned, the paper is changed. Today’s date stamped at the top of the front page, now rests at the bottom of the poop tray, the day Spaz crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.
He left us in the early hours of the morning. His seed tray was partially emptied, he had enjoyed a last favorite meal of Honey Treat, gone to the floor of his cage, lay his head down, and went to his long sleep.
I didn’t want to clean his cage, I didn’t want to erase the last remnants of his 11 years spent with us, in his Most Revered Cage. I wanted to hear his bell ding again, I wanted to hear his flapping wings as he sent feathers flying willy nilly during moulting season. I wanted to hear him say, “C’mon, wanna go upstairs” or “wanna get Cheeters”, his version of Flaming Hot Cheetos. Wanted to hear him call Mike “Jerrrrrk Brrrrrrrd” one more time, while sitting on his shoulder. To feel his beak nibbling on my earring, pecking my fingers as we played pinball on the computer, making the bells and buzzers go off with every key stroke. He poked at the keys, helping me play, his eyes would get goofy, he was in heaven!

I fished him out of the wine goblet often, as he helped himself.

He spent his last days in the office with us every day, a warm light over his cage for added heat. He was never alone for long, always went where we were at, during the day. He slept in our room at night, under his Rug Rats beach blanket. He was our buddy, ever present, good company. He will be missed…

I laid him in a soft Owl washcloth I had knit earlier, wrapping it gently around his tiny body. His Bells went with him,his constant companion, and an offering of his favorite seed treat was placed in the hole next to him. The spot was dry and protected from the elements, he will be safe there. I can see from my desk in the office, while watching the Hummers frequent the feeders.

I had Visitors as I prepared Spaz’ final resting place; I think they were there to help him cross over. They kept me smiling at least for a little bit, buzzing my head, and each other, peeping at me, hovering inches from my nose.

There’s seed hulls and feathers on the rug in the dining room; they can stay there a while longer. No need to erase his memory yet, as I log them here, for quiet moments later.

C’mon Speez Bird, Pretty Baby Bubby Birrrrrrrrd…. let’s go upstairs! 🐤💞💖

Received sad news yesterday, one of our Service Dept. guys, Jerad Redders, died suddenly in a horrific accident just blocks from his home….this morning, I woke thinking I was still stuck in a bad dream…..
Kutter Harley-Davidson is having their Fall Festival as scheduled, we will still attend. It will be incredibly tough to go back and see the guys, the 3 Amigos have lost one of their own…
There will be a motorcycle ride to the wake Sunday, and I will be there. They expect a big turnout, the lineup starts an hour before the services.

Johnny Lane, Dan Duffy and Jerad Redders

I’m working on a theme, seems apropo tonight, the Lighthouse Waves shawl. Sneak peeks only tonight, too much on my mind…

Yesterday, the lump on Igor’s shoulder became irritated from his licking, and started to rupture and bleed. A quick trip to the Vet, and the peach pit size lump was effectively removed, a benign clogged oil gland. It’s much better now, antibiotics are being dispensed to ward off infection.

The rest of the day was a blur, so I am just going to say good night

…not the physical kind, the kind that lies beneath the surface, while watching a loved one suffer unspeakable misery and despair. It leaves you weak and feeling vulnerable, drained, alone.
I immerse myself in my knitting, gatherings my thoughts and my strength while planning my next project, my next day.
I am anxious to start my next shawl. I am not a shawls sort of person, so why do I keep finding myself liking and wanting to make these lovely wraps and stoles? Maybe because they offer comfort with their subtle warm embrace, soft as a butterfly’s wings.
This next project will be one I will wrap myself in, Thinking of Waves by Conny Peng, yellowcosmos designs

I will call mine “Pueblo Bonito” in honor of a very special place.
The colours I chose represent the canyons of the Four Corners region, sand and stone as timeless as the sea, also created from water; a hint of the red rocks and turquoise that has been the life blood of the First People for hundreds of years.

I’ve come this far on my other shawl, Travelling Woman by Liz Abinante. It reveals a journey of the Spirit of Woman, in transition, with a purpose. I am enjoying this, my second one in the patten. It will go to my daughter who has recently flown the nest and on her way to her bright new future, a married woman. I will celebrate her flight, my Travelling Daughter~

The colors of Travelling Woman once again reflect a timeless land of red rocks and earth. I am drawn to this place, and will one day return Home…

DD and her hubby took a ride around town today, to get a feel for where they live.

A lot of cacti in Texas.

DD is totally in love with her new home. A good thing considering her purse was stolen a week after she moved down there. After a week of utter turmoil and feeling violated, it was a nice retreat from the ugliness she had to deal with; the phone calls to the bank, a new bank card. Not to mention all the normal new things like getting on insurance, car, lease. Oh yeah, and her heater core went out on her car right after her arrival in town. At least it made it to TX before epic fail, I am very thankful she and her MIL made it safe and sound.
As soon as she gets her wheels back, she can go apply for a job as cake decorator at the local Super Walmart. They are waiting for her to get squared away, and life’s looking promising for my fledgling 🙂

I’m packing a Care Package for the newlyweds, some things for their new pad: a ripple afghan her Grandmother Ranelli crocheted years ago. Now it will find a home on their new black futon 🙂

I’m packing a large Flat Rate box, and got her wooden key ring mail holder wall plaque she made in H.S., wrapped the blanket around it. Her spare keys I forgot to give her that day we parted in KY, will finally be sent. While I have other things to send later, this box will be big enough for many things this round. I’m making them a set of Halloween Owl Towels/hotpads, with the new Plymouth Fantasy Naturals yarns I picked up this week.
Focusing on the black, yellow and orange variegated yarn, I couldn’t help noticing the purple flecks in the orange, and picked up a skein of the dark purple as well. All will work into the Halloween theme.

I’m also oggling a new ball of yarn for a scarf pattern I just had to have, “Lefties”:

Tomorrow night is the grand finale of the 175th Walworth County Fair, and I want to ride over and get pictures of the night life and excitement, and the fireworks before its gone for another year.

Last night DH and I drove to town; I managed some blurry cellphone shots. The atmosphere was electric and yes! I want to go back!

Good Night, TX and WI! We will meet along the dusty trail again soon. 🙂
