These are hilariously fun to make! I’m working up the slipper foot,  on to the side, Isee the slit opening?) all the while thinking, “…is this RIGHT??”.

I did a search for Ravelry projects with this pattern and sure enough, many if the WIP’s look very similar-it’s not until you put the slipper sock on the foot, that it’s shape looks like  more than a sausage roll.

*note: something about this reminds me of something  Grandma might have knitted for Grandpa for those cold winter nights….??  *giggles,  these are too funny! 😀

I finished Sunrise Sock #1, am happy with the way it turned out-even the Kitchener stitch went off without a hitch!

I started the second sock using the Estonia cast-on:

Sock #2 Estonia Cast-on

Sock #2 Estonia Cast-on

I’m not crazy about the knit 1 row, purl 1 row, knit for pattern that the Estonians like to do as a rule for starting sock cuffs, but I really like the cast-on method-it’s a bit more decorative. I also found it a tremendous help doing the 2-needles together for a cast-on, helps create a looser foundation to knit the first row on.

I’m ready to start a new ball of yarn with this second sock, so I’m going to do a joining as seen in the Knitpicks video.

WHOOHOO! My Knitpicks order arrived!!! I love the Stroll Tweed sock yarn,  Aegean, Lumberjack, and Inca Gold.  Fruit Punch Multi is a fun color too!

I also really like the 3 colors of  Cadena: Blackberry, Tree Frog, and Black, for  Ribby Slippers by Cathy Carron. N. wants her slippers to be Black with Blackberry cuffs, and I’m making mine in Tree Frog with Black cuffs. I ordered Clover bamboo dpn’s for the slipper socks-the needles feel so smooth, can’t wait to try them out- I’m also going to try a 2-needle toe-up with one of my next sock projects, just for fun~ I am going to try the Elizabeth Zimmerman Sewn Bind-off for the heel.

Knitpicks prices are GREAT  and who ships for $3.99, and then free after $50? Knitpicks does!! I’m definitely going back for more soon.

I’m off to work on my Sunrise sock for a bit~have a good evening!

Today is Bonn’s birthday- by now, the Par-Tay should be well underway!

I started this doily as a Christmas present for my BFF,  back in 1992.

Christmas Floral Round, interupted

Christmas Floral Round, interrupted

Life-changes happened, I moved away, and the Doily went with me, all but forgotten until recently.

One day I was digging around in my organized chaos of  projects, both started and completed, and ran across this WIP.

Christmas roses in progress

Christmas roses in progress- now the fun begins!

It was time to finish it and send it off to it’s rightful place at last.

The Christmas  Floral Round doily is finally home where it belongs, maybe there will be matching coasters in it’s future….hmmmm?

I hope you like it, Sis- maybe I can get a picture of it where it is now *hint hint 🙂

I’ve started my 3rd pair of socks – I love this colorway, and I’m really liking the way this yarn works up.

These are going to be cushy and warm, too!

DD18 goes in to take a placement test at Gateway tomorrow morning. She’s off and doesn’t have to rush around,  so I’m taking my knitting and stick around, to save time and gas. Maybe we’ll do breakfast, if  I can get up early and get a walk in with Igor first thing. He won’t like that he has to stay home afterward, poor Boy…

This is short’n sweet, got CJ’s package ready to go out tomorrow, here’s a teaser:

I got my SKYPE Talk Buddy web cam thingy today and within minutes, got to see my grandbaby-girl Rhonda and she saw me!!

First thing she did was burst into giggles….go figure!

This is going to be fun! I got an extra Skype web cam, sent by mistake, so looking to get the rest of the kids on here!

On a sad note, I got an email today from a Knit Buddy in Australia-actually her son wrote me to let me know his mom was in a bad automobile accident on Aug. 14,  and is recovering from multiple injuries including a broken pelvis, several broken ribs, fractured vertebrae in her neck, dislocated finger, and a damaged spleen. I was told she is lucky to be alive but I am humbled that she still thought of me enough to send the message via her son, so I would not wonder where she was these past few days.

Lindy, if you can hear me, I’m sending some healing thoughts your way, honey!

I just placed my first KnitPicks sock yarn order, YIPPY SKIPPY!

I sat on the order, changed it several times, adding, subtracting, drove myself nuts for over a week, and after reviewing our budget, dove in and submitted the order.
I got 2 colors of Stroll Tweed: Lumberjack and Inca Gold,  Stroll Muli: Fruit Punch.  I’m going to try the Wheat Stalkings pattern (free), as found in Ravelry.

I got 3 colors of  Cadena: Blackberry, Tree Frog, and Coal, for Ribby Slippers by Cathy Carron.  I also ordered 2 sets of Clover Bamboo dpns, in the larger sizes for my slippers.  *New Favorite Gift idea (?)

…and counting the days until I get my FreeTalk Buddy Web Cam, so my granddaughter can see her Grandma, up close and personal!!

Catch a Falling Star and Put it in Your Pocket August 11, 2009

Tonight is the Perseids Meteor Shower event.

There will be dozens of meteors an hour from sunset Tuesday night, through sunrise Wednesday. The best viewing will be at 4:00am, when we should be able to see over 200 meteors an hour-this is the time when the earth passes through a denser part of the Swift-Tuttle comet’s tail. The last two summers have been a dud, too many clouds or too overcast to see anything-we hope to catch a few later tonight

“Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, save it for a rainy day…”

Make a wish!

I’m ready to start my next project:  toe-up ankle socks. I need to get some #2 circs from Chappy, when she gets back from Sock Summit 2009, Aug. 16. I’m going to follow Denise Powell’s tutorials on Cybersocks. There’s a bunch of  free patterns, help and other stuff at Wendyknits blog.

Happy Knitting!

I got to work on Mommy’s Socks virtually all day Sunday, in between Krusteaz Lemon Bars, and walks with Igor-

Mommy Sock, day 3

Mommy Sock, day 3

I found a lady on eBay,chappywoman; she has a large assortment of knitting supplies, and great prices,  so I bought 3 pairs of circulars and some #5 DPNs from her last week. I need to get two pairs of size 2 16″ circulars from her, after she gets back from Ravelry Sock Summit Meetup August 8, 2009. I wish I could go!!!!

She also has the 1 inch plastic rings (among other sizes) for the Pineapple Book Marks.

I also got a new book off eBay last week-

Chair Sets Book No. 206

Chair Sets Book No. 206

This is the book which has the pattern for the Pineapple Book Mark I’ve been making for some friends ~

I began making the fan pulls while sitting with my terminally ill Dad, and it helped me keep my sanity during those dismal days. My Life Sis, Susie brought me enough thread and plastic 1″ rings to complete several fan pulls, while I was there. I gave her and her mother, and the Hospice nurse each one, as a token of my appreciation for all they did for me while I was there.

Oddly, the pattern book has since gone missing. It will probably show up now that I have another copy 🙂

A sunflower blessed us today, by blooming in the oddest place-next to our front porch!

Sunflower at my Doorstep

The days are definitely growing shorter. It’s 8:45pm and the sun has set completely already. Soon it will be time to button everything up in the Fall and then we’ll be ready to hibernate for another winter.

G’night, sleep tight,
don’t let the bed-bugs bite.
If they do, tell them to shoo,
and have yourself a good-night. (I made the last part up…can’t remember how it goes…)
