Today turned out to be a perfect day for January; the sun was out, the temps hovered at just under 50, it was a perfect opportunity for Stella and I to get out for a nice ride around the town.
We left at 2:45, rode past barren windswept corn fields, past farms and cow pastures, past silent, empty silos, and rode back in as the temps and sun began to fall, just after 4pm.
As I pulled up to the garage, (DH said, “beep your horn when you get back, and I’ll raise the door…”) and had to look for the freaking horn button. After all, it had only been 7 weeks since I last took Stella out, and hadn’t had a need to blast the horn in a while. Bee-BEEP! Up the door went and Stella and I were back inside the warm confines of Garage World. For that one hour outside, I hadn’t even noticed the cold, until we were back inside. It occurred to me then, I forgot to wear my wool socks, DOH!
Speaking of knitting, I’m working on a scarf for Nats. I’m working it up in Lion Brand Homespun, Gothic colorway.

I’ve got about 4′ done out of the first skein.
I have resolved to stick to two smaller projects, while puttering at a larger vest over the next few months, and try to have a few more socks done by next Fall. Time will tell. I have no immediate plans for a Halloween (doily?) project, yet. That could change at any time ![]()
The deer are making frequent stops at the bird feeders, now empty. I’ll have to pick up a new bag of bird seed at Lowes soon.
For the past couple weeks, we’ve seen a smallish fox in the area. Usually he can be seen laying in the sun, preening his rather thinning tail. I took this ahot from inside the Blazer, before pulling up a few yards ahead and pulling over. Igor would not spook him, in the off-chance he took to barking.

I was able to get within about 10 yards of him before a passing car slowed down to watch, and spooked him into dashing into the trees where he waited for both the car, and me, to leave. I waited patiently, until he came back out of hiding. Barely glancing at me, he trotted off on 3 legs, favoring a front paw, and disappeared into the trees on the opposite side of the road. I wished the little guy good luck and good health, went back to the truck and Igor and I left for home.
Igor is doing great since his surgery, and is sporting a new monogrammed winter coat and most recently a new Harley bandana he got on our last trip to Kutter’s H-D.
We’ll wait for the snow, and be content with what we have, until we get ready to ride again in Spring.
